ABOUT US

Welcome to Audio Video Film Digitization Services, where preserving the past is Shai Drori’s passion and expertise. Shai has been on a mission to save family and historical treasures since 1997, serving archives and individuals.

Young Years

Shai Drori's passion for the audio, video, and film industry was ignited at a young age. At just seven years old, Shai's mother took him to her workplace during the summer break - the prestigious Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA), the successor of the Palestine mandate BBC. Little did he know that this visit would forever change the course of his life.

Upon entering the broadcasting and audio-filled environment of IBA, the array of fascinating technologies and the vibrant atmosphere immediately captivated Shai. It was a world of magic, where sounds and images came alive, and the potential for storytelling seemed boundless. From that very day, he found himself irresistibly drawn to the heart of broadcasting and audio engineering.

During subsequent school vacations, Shai's affinity for the industry led him back to the IBA, where he eagerly immersed himself in its captivating world. It didn't take long for the engineers to notice his genuine passion and eagerness to learn. Recognizing his potential, they took him under their wing and generously shared their knowledge and expertise.

Under the guidance of these experienced engineers, Shai embarked on a journey of hands-on learning. He was taught how to monitor broadcasts, handle 1/4" tape, and prepare it for playback on recording machines such as the Ampex 350, Ampex 440, and Studer A80. With each passing day, his skills and understanding of the craft deepened, and he swiftly became adept at the controls of these iconic machines.

By ten, Shai had already accumulated countless hours of experience at the helm of recording equipment, and it became increasingly evident that this was his true calling. From that transformative experience at the Israel Broadcasting Authority to founding Audio Video Film Digitization Services, Shai Drori's journey has been guided by an enduring love for the industry, a thirst for knowledge, and an unyielding desire to conserve the precious memories and stories preserved in old recordings.

Finding His Niche

Shai's journey into the world of digitization and preservation began with a solid foundation as a Recording Engineer. While he loved his time in the recording studio, Shai realized that his heart truly belonged to the restoration and conservation of old recordings, those gems of sound that carry the essence of bygone eras.

Growing beyond those early days when Shai had started this venture in a humble room within his apartment, equipped with just one computer, two cassette decks, and the legendary Ampex ATR-100 reel to reel deck, he doubled down on his mission to build a business that would specialize in handling various obsolete recording formats. With the goal of preserving archives and memories with utmost care, he strove to make these cherished pieces of history and accessible to clients for generations to come.

Shai's dedication to quality and customer care helped his business flourish. The growing demand for his services led to the expansion of his operations, prompting a move to a larger space to accommodate the expanding collection of recording equipment to video and film. But Shai's pursuit of excellence didn't stop there.

Recognizing the importance of continuous learning and staying at the forefront of the industry, Shai joined prestigious international organizations such as the Audio Engineering Society (AES), the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA), and the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA). Through these connections, he gained invaluable insights and engaged in knowledge exchange with experts and enthusiasts from around the world.

As a true connoisseur of the craft, Shai immersed himself in literature and research, devouring countless books and papers on digitization, restoration, and archival practices. Armed with this newfound knowledge and his existing expertise, he ventured into conducting meticulous experiments to refine and perfect the digitization process continually.
